To establish a formal professional engagement, you must first contact our firm to complete an initial review. Following a comprehensive conflict check across our firm-wide systems, we will draft a formal Letter of Engagement.
This document precisely defines the target operational scope, identifies the responsible director, and clarifies the custom commercial rates and billing parameters calculated for your instruction.
In strict compliance with statutory South African anti-money laundering frameworks and professional standards, we require verified legal proof of identity prior to commencing client work. Requirements include:
- For Corporate Entities: Valid corporate registration profiles, verifiable proof of operational business addresses, and clear identification records establishing the ultimate beneficial ownership circles.
- For Individual Clients: Valid certified national identity documents or valid international passports coupled with certified utility records as proof of residence.
Our standard invoices are due for settlement within five (5) business days from delivery, payable in the specific currency defined on the invoice directly into our designated legal trust account. All billing figures represent net amounts, meaning they must not be impacted by external bank handling charges or local tax deductions.
Per our standard engagement parameters, unpaid statements outstanding beyond a 30-day window automatically incur standard contractual interest adjustments capped at 10.5% per annum.
Essential project expenses incurred on your behalf—such as specialized independent advocate fees, long-distance telephone calls, official translation costs, courier routes, and official court registrar filing costs—are directly integrated into our statements at cost.
For extensive or lengthy proceedings where third-party costs are substantial, we will consult with you and request an advance deposit to cover those payments before they are finalized.
Matoti M Attorneys Inc. carries comprehensive professional indemnity insurance to provide protection for all corporate and personal instructions. Our aggregate liability across legal actions—whether grounded in contract disputes, tort laws, or standard operational negligence—is limited to the maximum coverage amount provided by our professional indemnity insurers.
For due diligence projects, our contractual liability is further limited to the net legal professional fees billed for that specific project.
